Table of codes in TIOS

INFRASTRUCTURE:

1 Track * Problems on the line. Ruptured rail, buckling, frost heave.
* Reduced speed acc. to train control circular.
* Slippery rails, snow/ice/fallen leaves, tree on track, vegetation reducing visibility.
* Slippery platform. Overflow due to blocked water duct (not flood).
* Planned work not completed on time.
* Repair work after critical happenings (landslides, derailing etc.)
2 Interlocking/signaling, remote control* Traffic controller unable to set signal.
* Coating on track circuit, incl. salt coating.
* Railroad switch not under control.
* Block interlocking, light bulb control, shunting/remote control system, ATC track coil.
* Problems with level crossing and landslide alert installation.
* Unintentional passing of stop signal due to technical defect.
* Malfunction of emergency power supply.
3 Electric power/Catenary * Catenary torn down/damaged.
* Tree on catenary.
* Defect in catenary components.
* Defect in catenary transformer (no current/reduced capacity).
* Lack of track switch heaters.
4 Telecom and transmission error * Telecom and transmission defects fallen under the responsibility of Bane NOR causing operating incident. Defects in GSM-R system.
* Defect in speaker/indicator.
* Defect in FIDO communication.
5 Planned maintenance infrastructure* Planned train cancelation due to planned maintenance on the infrastructure, communicated to the operating companies in advance.
* Delays due to waiting for alternative transport.
* Single-track operation due to planned maintenance.
6 Faulty rolling stock blocking track * Code 6 is used for other trains being delayed/cancelled due to a faulty train blocking track or block section
* Also used if single-track operation must be implemented due to a faulty train locking the line.
* The code will be used even if the faulty train has started running again.
* Is also used when the faulty train is a work train.
* Code 7 (queue) can also be used for the blocked trains when the faulty train starts running again within a short time-frame (<10 minutes).

When the track is cleared, but trains are held back in order to wait for crossings code 7 will apply. Note: The faulty train will get code 81.

TRAFFIC FLOW:

7 Traffic flow* Trains on time waiting for delayed trains for crossing, or gets delayed in a queue.
* Signal set late by traffic controller. Defect in auxiliary system FJS (Automatic/ATL/TLS).
* Comprehensive appraisal of sequence/choice of location of passing, construction defect/system error in timetable.
* Data errors in TIOS.
* Inability to report train movement to staffed station.
* Faulty usage of the FIDO-system by Bane NOR staff.
* Trains delayed by other trains.

TRAIN OPERATING COMPANIES:

81 Defect in rolling stock * All defects in rolling stock causing stops or reduced speed.
* Load displacement in freight trains. * Defects on the onboard equipment like FIDO, ERTMS and ATC.
82 Rolling stock delayed from garage siding * Used when departure is delayed because the train is not assembled on time from marshalling yard/engine shed/garage siding etc.

The code of the underlaying cause of a delay should be used if this is known, instead of code 82.
83 Staff shortage * Delay caused by any form of staff shortage with train operating company, including change of staff along the route.
* Also used in situations of large traffic disruptions with delays as specified by “Act Cards”.

Exceptions: In cases of acute sickness among the staff code 94 will be used.
84 Stop at station * Exceeding scheduled stop time at station/stop due to passengers:
* Passengers
* Loading/unlading of goods
* Shunting
* Use of wheelchair-lift.
* Train operating company requests holding train back due to passengers arriving by other delayed service, no matter the cause of delay.

As delays are registered on arrival, an exceeded stop will be registered at the next station.
85 Planned performance not fulfilled * Train running with reduced stock (capacity/speed) as compared to plan.
* Train fails to keep scheduled speed.
* Driving practice.
* Additional train stop ordered by train operating company.
* Faulty usage of the FIDO-system by staff from train operating company. * Train cancelled due to commercial reasons or due to lack of rolling stock.
* Trains cancelled in order to catch up on delays (most relevant for shuttle trains).

Exceptions: Not to be used on cancellations due to “Act Cards” and other large traffic disruptions affecting a big part of the train traffic, in this case the primary code should be used. Nor to be used if something is hindering the train from driving on the line, for example rolling stock with defects.

EXTERNAL FACTORS:

91 Delay from abroad* Train delayed/cancelled from Sweden.
* Train held back on Norwegian side of border due to congested line in Sweden.
92 Exterior factors* Storm, flood, landslide making the line impassable, or risk of accidents for these reasons
* Snowfall causing red or orange alert
* Heavy snowfall during periods when snow preparedness has not been implemented.
93 Accidents, collisions* In case of collisions with people, vehicle, animal or other object on the track or on the stations. * Operating accidents, derailing and shunting accidents.

Used for any kind of derailing or collision, no matter the primary cause.
94 Unwanted occurrences* Unwanted occurrences outside the control of Bane NOR or the train operating company.
* Illegal traffic on or next to the track.
* Animals along the track, including alerts for reindeer.
* Train waiting for police/ambulance/customs/security.
* Fire in connection with line/station
* Unintentional passing of stop signal (not caused by technical defect).
* Stop in supply of electricity from external source.
* Acute sickness among traffic controllers or staff from the train operating companies.
